The Dalhousie Club, Dalhousie
by Dr. Kewal K. Mahajan
In 1890, Chamba Club was started in Dalhousie by the British settlers.
The name was subsequently changed to Dalhousie Club. The club operated
in the Bull's Head (now Hotel Mount View), which was the first hotel operated
in Dalhousie.
In 1897, 1 acre of land on the Sonanatala spur at the bus stand was leased
to the Club by the government for 99 years. A new club was built under
its management of a governing body. It had a billiard room, library, reading
room, card room, bar, and tennis courts.
The Dalhousie Club is sill in operation and popular with army officers
and local bureaucracy. However, it does not have the life energy that
it once enjoyed. It need rehabilitation and rejuvenation. After the partition,
its management for a few decades was marginal and it lost its old glory.
