Netaji Subash Chandra Bose - 1937

Netaji with Dr. and Mrs. Dharmvir and Raizada Hansraj on arrival in Dalhousie.

Netaji spent seven months in Dalhousie in 1937. He returned to India in 1936, despite British government warnings that he will be arrested and put in jail. He was arrested on his arrival. His health deteriorated rapidly in captivity. In 1937, he was released at the request of his family. He came to Dalhousie to recupuerate. He stayed at the bungalow of Dr. Dharmveer. The bungalow called Kynance is a few blocks away from the GPO on Punjpula road. Mrs. Dharmveer was an old classmate of Netaji. He spent his time in contemplation. Not much is known about his activities during this time.

But after his sojourn in Dalhousie, his recovery was complete and he put his reinvigorated energy full steam into the Indian Independence struggle and was at the helm of affairs as President of the Indian National Congress in 1938 and 1939.

Many landmarks and institutions in Dalhousie bear his name like Subash Bowli, Subash Chowk, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Senior Higher Secondary School etc.
